Captiva Island Photographer
Off the southwest coast of Fort Myers, Captiva Island provides an enchanting rendezvous for families arriving from different parts of the world. Just under a one hour drive from the international airport in Fort Myers, the beautiful barrier island is perfect for weddings of any size. Some of the weddings I have photographed on Captiva Island are intimate weddings with just a bride and groom. This usually involves only and hour or so of my time, then the bride and groom will choose a restaurant for an intimate celebration dinner. Captiva Island is a perfect choice when considering those five great reasons for a destination wedding. Off the coast of Captiva Island is North Captiva, please read below for more information about this interesting family vacation destination.
Captiva Island Wedding Venues
The Captiva Island Yacht Club is located on Captiva Drive, nestled between waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the back bay. Wedding receptions at this lovely destination have a fun feature. When it’s time for sunset, you can walk a short 500 feet out the front door to the beach!
This Otter Banks Wedding blog post shows a beautiful home on Captiva Drive that overlooks the back bay of Captiva Island. This wedding photography was created in October.
The Bali Hi Estate is a majestic beach home and spacious guest house with every amenity you can think of and direct access to the Gulf of Mexico. You can roll out of bed and have your wedding and reception right on the property. Here is a lovely home called ‘Almost Heaven’ on the bay side which provided some beautiful portrait lighting for this bride’s destination wedding. Captiva Island is mellow and easy going, a great choice is Captiva Island for a destination wedding!
Other weddings I’ve photographed seat over 200, with chairs for guests on the beach. The picture of the young girl holding a coconut was recently taken on Captiva Island where I made these natural light portraits of her family. A great resort at the north end of Captiva Island is South Seas Island Resort. The beautiful and natural property is located between the bay and Gulf of Mexico. While on photo assignment at South Seas Island Resort, I photograph family photo sessions and Captiva Island destination weddings.
Captiva Island is north of Sanibel Island and it’s narrow-you can walk from the bay side to the gulf side in just a few minutes. The gulf side faces a perfect west, making it ideal for sunset wedding photography and colorful sunset family photography.
Chapel by the Sea Weddings on Captiva
The Chapel by the Sea is a one-hundred-year-old cottage/chapel which is a charming place for an island wedding ceremony. The chapel is available for destination weddings on Captiva Island from November through April each year. They put on a lovely display of lights if you visit for a tropical Christmas wedding.
Family Photography on Captiva Island
Captiva Island is also the perfect location for family photography sessions year round. Children delight in being able to walk from coast to coast and the gulf beaches face due west for perfect sunset photos.
During a beach photo session, the whole family will enjoy collecting the beautiful shells strewn along the sand, alongside warm, calm blue waters. And if the herons, egrets, pelicans and other wildlife you can find on land aren’t enough for you, you can take to the water to spot dolphins and manatees in their native environment. I photographed a three generation family reunion on Captiva for the New Years Holiday, the beautiful colors of the ocean and sky made a great backdrop!
North Captiva Island Photography
This is an island north of Captiva and can be reached only by water taxi. A water taxi is available from Captiva and also from Pine Island. On the island there are no motor vehicles, only golf carts. So, below are some photographs I made of the Gordon family when they arrived to a resort home rental on the island. I arrived from Pine Island by a regularly scheduled water taxi. The three Gordon families arrived in three golf cars along with the grandparents. We spent the afternoon traveling the island for interesting photo opportunities with the children. Here is the blog post I made for this fun North Captiva Island family portrait session. North Captiva is also popular for elopements. A couple would take a water taxi from Captiva Island or Pine Island. There is a great selection of beach homes to rent for an intimate wedding or wedding with family. Here is a North Captiva Island elopement blog post where the parents brought the children for a fun week of a beach ceremony and vacation.
