Famous Elopements on Sanibel and Captiva Islands
Over my years as an elopement photographer on Sanibel Island, I recall two famous people that eloped on Sanibel and I surely remember photographing their beach weddings.
Kathryn Janeway, Captain of the Star Trek U.S.S. Voyager had her elopement with a few special friends at a condominium on East Gulf Drive. The captain's daytime wedding included a quick walk to the beach for additional pictures. It was an honor to photograph this elopement because Captain Janeway traveled at warp speed through the Delta Quadrant, and other galaxies while the Commanding Officer the Star Trek Voyager. Captain Janeway could have hired any other photographer from throughout the Universe, and yet I was the chosen photographer!
Another enjoyable elopement that I photographed was of Wilford Brimley. This was a gathering of 25 or so friends and family at a small resort on Sanibel Beach. This exciting elopement included a beach ceremony and dinner.
Some years ago, I was photographing a wedding at the South Seas Island Resort on Captiva Island. While I was photographing the bride prior to the ceremony, 'someone' just a few steps away, was watching the bride pose with her bouquet. The bride looked at the man, and her expression and face turned a bright, excited and joyful crimson. It was Rob Lowe! So, when the bride caught her breath and was somewhat calmer, I asked Rob if he would quickly pose with the bride and he agreed.
